In order to help understand the interactions and differences between the RSS policy ENV5, Part L of the Building Regulations, the Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM, the following three fictional case studies or worked examples have been developed:

• A development of 10 homes;
• A development of 500 homes;
• A commercial office development.

Through these case studies some of the challenges of setting policy in this area and important points to watch are highlighted.
