PPS1: Planning and Climate Change (Supplement to PPS 1)
- Encourage greater use of decentralised and renewable or low carbon supply systems and networks
- Identify sites for decentralised and renewable or low carbon energy
- Set area and site specific targets for decentralised and renewable or low carbon energy
- Policies must be based on sound evidence and set out in DPDs
- Progress should be reported in annual monitoring reports

PPS22: Renewable Energy
- Recognise the full range of renewable energy sources, their characteristics, locational requirements and potential
- Encourage integration of small scale renewables in new developments (requirements superseded by PPS1 Supplement)
- Regional targets should be set as minimum of installed capacity
- Does not apply to offshore renewables or CHP developments (unless fuelled by a renewable resource)
